Serial killers and organ thieves run rampant in Disney+ new Korean thriller Connect

New Korean thriller Connect landed at Disney+ on 7 December. Following Ha Dongsoo as he tries to recover what has been stolen from him, the show takes the audience on a six episode roller coaster of adventure and mystery.

Actor Jung Haein plays Ha Dongsoo, a new type of immortal human known as ‘Connect’. Kidnapped by a gang of organ thieves who are adamant on taking his eyes, Dong-soo wakes up on the operating table with one eye gone and the other still intact. Shortly after, he realizes he can still see out of his missing eyes, discovering it is now being used by a serial killer terrorizing the citizens of Seoul. Determined to get back what was taken, Dongsoo pursues the killer, taking whatever steps are necessary to make himself whole again.

Set against the backdrop of working class Seoul neighbourhoods, the actions of the characters are shrouded by the dark alley ways lit only by the occasional neon signs that hover above. Connect entered the streaming universe following its rave reviews at a public screening at Busan International Film Festival’s On Screen programme. Directed by Audition and Ichi the Killer’s Miike Takashi, Connect is supported also by South Korean drama production company Studio Dragon, known for projects including Alchemy of Souls and The Queen’s Umbrella.

Other cast members include  Ko Kyungpyo from Reply 1988, Netflix’s Seoul Vibe as well as Chicago Typewriter as serial killer Oh Jinseop, and Kim Hyejun from Kingdom, Inspector Koo, and Matrimonial Chaos as the mysterious Irang.
