Transformers 4 builds Hong Kong set filming on location in Detroit

Michael Bay’s Transformers 4 has started filming in Michigan, building a Hong Kong set in Detroit as a double for the Chinese city. Filming will continue through to mid-August and the production has been awarded a substantial incentive payment on expenditure of about USD65 million.

“We begin in Detroit on the big set we've built underneath the monorail,” producer Ian Bryce told the Detroit Free Press: “There's a lot of control for cars and street action that we can't get in other places. We're big fans of Michigan and Detroit. There are a lot of good things we look forward to here, including the co-operation.”

Paramount Pictures confirmed earlier this year that the Transformers sequel will be filmed partly on location in China through a regional co-operation agreement. The true extent of the Chinese shoot hasn’t been revealed, but it should help the movie reach a wider Chinese audience on release, especially if it secures co-production status.
