Cannes Lions returns for 2022

The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is back. The festival will take place from 20 to 24 June 2022. A series of special talks, networking events, and beach parties are scheduled throughout the week – and The Location Guide cannot wait to see everyone again.

The team behind FOCUSmakers magazinemakers & shakers Awards and The Location Guide will be at Cannes Lions. To arrange a meeting, please click here. Our representatives at the festival are: Jean-Frédéric Garcia, Managing Director; Clara Le, Commercial Director; Rodrigo Carrasco, International Sales Manager; and Murray Ashton, Founder. We would love to discuss how we can connect you with the global screen industries and in turn elevate your company.

A celebration of the life of Julie Thomas – dear friend and Chief Creative Co-ordinator at AOI Pro – will take place on Tuesday 21st June from 4pm t0 6pm. She travelled the globe, produced thousands of commercials, and is remembered as a kind, charismatic and caring member of the advertising production community. This event is happening at Le Petit Majestic bar behind the Grand Hotel.

The Spotify Beach is set for an emphatic return. Kendrick Lamar, Post Malone, Dua Lip, DJ Pee .Wee (aka Anderson .Paak), Kaytranada and the Black Keys are scheduled for performances at Palais Stéphanie Beach. Key talks from Founder and CEO Daniel EK and COO Dawn Ostroff will take place during the daytime.

Tech is back in force. Meta Beach at Hôtel Barrière, Plage du Majestic has a strong line-up of thought leadership sessions and hands-on workshop, and Amazon Port at Esplande Pantiero, Harbour of Cannes will host industry discussions and wellness lessons.

Cannes Lions is known for its fringe events, and 2022 is no exception. Highlights include: The Gerety Awards & Tantor Films BBQ session, BW Lions – 120 Minutes party,  the Young Directors Awards, parties from Shots, Sizzer, Massive Music and many more.

The straight 8 shootout returns for this year’s festival. Presented by APA and Cinelab Film & Digital, the festival’s favourite DIY film competition will premiere 20 short films at Cannes. Screenings are scheduled for Friday June 24th at Cinema Les Arcades, 77 Rue Felix Faure. Breakfast sponsored by LS Productions takes place from 10.00am 10.45am. This is then followed by a prompt 11.00am call time, with wrap time scheduled for 12:45pm after the official voting and awards ceremony in the cinema.

APCPICEX and Alía will host a Meeting Lounge at Cannes Lions 2022. This new networking opportunity aims to bring advertisers, agencies, production companies and service companies together. It will promote Spanish productions among both national and international clients. The Meeting Lounge is scheduled for 5:00pm on 21st June 2022 in Le Grand Hotel’s gardens.

The competition is itself is heating up at Cannes Lions. Cannes Lions has unveiled its shortlist for Innovation Lions, Titanium Lions and the 2022 Glass: The Lion for Change. Shortlisted entrants are set to present their work to jury members virtually before the festival kicks off.

Girls Who Code’s ‘Dojacode’ campaign with musician Doja Cat has been tipped for success. To encourage girls to get into coding, the group created an interactive experience that enables participants to direct and code their own music video for Doja Cat. Adidas Women’s ‘Beyond the Surface’ is another strong contender. Each shot is based on a poem by Sudanese-British poet, basketballer and activist Asma Elbawadi.
