Italian action drama Task Force 45 to film episodes on location in Malta

Italian action TV series Task Force 45 will film scenes for two different episodes on location in Malta. The Mediterranean island nation has had a busy year, standing in for Libya in Michael Bay’s new Benghazi feature, while Luc Besson’s The Lake has used its water tank.

Filming under the full title Task Force 45 – Friendly Fire, the series will feature Italian star Raoul Bova as a member of a Special Forces branch of the Italian Army.

Earlier this year Michael Bay doubled locations across Malta for his military drama 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. The film tells the true story of the 2012 terror attacks on two US compounds in Libya.

Maltese island Gozo recently hosted Angelina Jolie Pitt’s new movie By the Sea (above), which she wrote, directed and starred in alongside her husband Brad Pitt. In addition, Malta has hosted scenes for Colin Firth’s upcoming movie about Donald Crowhurst, a British amateur sailor whose attempt to win the Golden Globe yacht race in 1968 ended in tragedy.

“Malta is experiencing one of the busiest years in its film industry,” said the country’s Film Commissioner Engelbert Grech.

“A film of this magnitude will most certainly boost Malta’s reputation as a film-friendly destination. Having a number of well-established filmmakers choosing Malta adds to Malta’s prestige in film servicing.”

Last year Malta increased its filming incentive to 25%, with an extra 2% available for productions specifically set in the country. The country’s accessibility, climate, experienced crew base and water tank facilities make it a hugely appealing international filming location.
