The British Arrows have announced the winners of their 48th gala. Celebrating the greatest talents in moving image advertising, the ceremony saw more than 240 entrants awarded bronze, silver and gold trophies. Amongst the awardees, APA chief executive Steve Davies took home the coveted Fellowship Award for his 25 years of leadership. The night of celebration was hosted by television personality Rylan and held at Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Oscar nominee and Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel makes his directing debut with action thriller Monkey Man. Revealing the trailer at SXSW 2024, the feature follows a man’s quest for vengeance after the murder of his mother and the systemic brutality against the poor and powerless. Jordan Peele joins Patel as producer for the upcoming internationally shot feature.

Last night, the awards season came to a close with the 2024 edition of the Academy Awards.  Bringing together some of the biggest blockbusters of the past year, the ceremony saw Christopher Nolan’s  Oppenheimer come out on top with seven Oscar wins including Best Actor and Best Cinematography and Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things following close behind with four.

Jay Hunt has been appointed chair of the British Film Institute (BFI) by the secretary of state. The Apple TV+ creative director for Europe, and former chief creative officer of Channel 4,  has been a governor of the BFI since 2020. The new chair will commence her four year term starting from 12 February 2024.

The 67th BFI London Film Festival, which will be held from 4 to 15 October announced yesterday their selection for this year’s opening gala. Taking to the screen will be Academy Award winner Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn. The mid-2000’s set film stars Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Alison Oliver, Archie Madekwe and Carey Mulligan.

After negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) failed, the Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) has gone on strike. The conflict pits its 11,500 members against major studios, like Universal and Paramount, as well as streamers such as Amazon, Apple and Netflix.  Immediate effects will be seen in late night talk shows and sketch shows, with programmes like Saturday Night Live and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert going dark immediately. Picketing will begin tomorrow outside Amazon, Disney, Warner Bros., Paramount, Netflix, Sony, Universal and Fox.
