Season six of Trollied made with new sustainability measures at The Bottle Yard Studios

The sixth season of Sky 1’s hit comedy Trollied took on new sustainability protocols during its filming at The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol. Some of the green initiatives used include a ban on all non-rechargeable batteries and providing all staff with water bottles to cut down on the use of plastic.

Other measures headed by the production include using the streaming website Vimeo as a platform for video storage to avoid the use of DVDs, and establishing a number of categorised recycling points on-site.

Head of Production at Roughcut TV, Tim Sealey explains: “we’ve been working hard with Sky to make Trollied more sustainable over the years, once again we have achieved a 3 star albert+ rating for series six. This year we went further than ever, with the aim of making this our greenest series yet. Each individual measure may seem small, but the combined effect makes a massive difference across a shoot that lasts several weeks with large numbers of cast and crew involved.”

Albert is a UK based company that encourages productions to take an active role in cutting down their carbon footprint by offering information on all things green and providing calculated sustainability ratings.

Fiona Francombe, The Bottle Yard Studios’ Site Director adds: “sustainability is hugely important to us here at The Bottle Yard and we try to make the ‘green’ option as convenient as possible for the productions that film with us. It’s widely agreed that the UK production sector has a poor track record when it comes to the environment, and more needs to be done to change practise across the board to reduce the environmental impact of the TV industry. Sky and Roughcut TV’s refreshingly proactive approach to cutting carbon across Trollied’s production is exemplary and should be celebrated.”

Trollied has been a resident production at The Bottle Yard since 2011, utilising a large scale purpose-built supermarket set. The series is a parody of working life in a UK supermarket.

The Bottle Yard recently wrapped season three of the BBC’s Poldark, before receiving a staggering GBP692,000 investment from Bristol City Council to expand its facilities.

Television programmes filming in the UK can access a 25% tax rebate should they spend a minimum of GBP1 million per episode and pass a cultural test. The scheme is designed to attract high-budget television shows, whereas the feature film arm of the incentive applies to productions of any budget size.

Trollied will return November 7th, 9pm on Sky1.
