Set around ten thousand years before the start of Game of Thrones, Bloodmoon will detail the world before we knew it, as the Golden Age of Heroes ends and the White Walkers come into being.

George R.R. Martin told Entertainment Weekly “Westeros is a very different place. There’s no King’s Landing. There’s no Iron Throne. There are no Targaryens – Valyria has hardly begun to rise yet with its dragons and the great empire that it built. We’re dealing with a different and older world and hopefully that will be a part of the fun of the series”.

Although it is yet unclear if new international locations will be used in the series. Over eight series, Game of Thrones shot in Iceland, Northern Ireland, Croatia, Italy and Spain, Malta and Morocco.

Originally, HBO had commissioned five spin off series, however only Bloodmoon has continued its developed into a prequel.
